Technology Reflection - Rock Cake

WAL: How to make rock cake.

On Thursday for technology the year 8’s made rock cake with Mrs. Tuipulotu. Today's
technology was different to all the other technology's we've been to because
today we got to do everything by ourselves without the teacher instructing us all the
time on what we do and how we do it. Today the thing that me and my partner found really challenging
was trying to make our rock cakes in the right shape and topping them up. It was really challenging because without the teachers instructions we kind of needed a lot of help but besides from that everything else was amazing and it was an great experience. Today was also a great time getting to do all the baking by ourselves and learning how to make more new food and next time I really look forward to what we’re making next.

Boy Banned For Running In Bare feet

WAL: Reflect on what we read for SSR.

Today for SSR I chose an article from NZ Herald that's about a child that was
disqualified from participating in races because of running in barefoot. It is sad news to hear
that this child was not able to compete in the 80 sprint against others because of the rules of
not aloud to run in barefoot. His name is Henry Patterson and his mother was not happy at all that
he was disqualified from racing. But as the rules were said he was not able to race in barefoot. In this article I learnt about not racing in barefoot because you could get disqualified and it's part of the rules in some school's. Next time I would like to read an article about health & wellbeing because I don’t really read that much about health and wellbeing. The thing that i found challenging was trying to understand why kids cannot race in barefoot because it is a normal thing for kids to race in barefoot.

Black Gold

WALA: The different events happening around the world.

Today our teacher gave our whole class an article to read and reflect on about. The article that our teacher gave us is called Black Gold and is based on hair extensions. In this text our teacher has given our class an article and we have to read it and then reflect on it with the questions she has given us. I have learnt a lot of new things from this text about what happens in China with hair extensions. In part of this text I read that some men go around China looking for little girls with long hair to cut then they sell it other women who need hair. I found understanding words that I haven't heard before challenging for me because I don't really know what it means and what it is. From this text I enjoyed watching the video about how they cut girl's hair and how they make hair extensions.

Thank you reading please comment on my work!

Team Building

WALT: Reflect on what we did for team building.

On Monday the year 7&8's did team building outside on the field. We did some camp activities together before the year 7&8's were off to camp the next day. I like doing team building because you get to communicate with others and learn more about the others around you. My favorite part of team building was when did the lid spinning because it was challenging and I found it hard but we all still tried even if our group didn't win. Next time I need to do better in helping my team mates.

E.O.T.C WEEK

WALT: Reflect on what we did for E.O.T.C Week.

This is my presentation that I worked on with my buddy Irys. The whole of last week the year 4 5 & 6 had E.O.T.C while the year 7&8's were at camp. Although some year 7&8's didn't go so they stayed behind and went E.O.T.C as well only if they payed. E.O.T.C stands for Education Outside The Classroom. E.O.T.C is extremely fun and it's a good time to get to know others and getting new friends and knowing more about the people around you. My favorite part of E.O.T.C was when we watched the movie Secret Life Of Pets. It's my favorite part of E.O.T.C because I get to spend more time with my friends and because I was really looking forward to watching Secret Life Of Pets. In most parts of the movie I laughed because Snowball is so cute and funny because he looks so cute and then turns angry. Snowball is my favorite character because he's cute, funny, intelligent in his own ways, confident and many more reasons why. I chose to work on a presentation because it's much easier for me to work on and because on each slide me and Irys put in what we did each day on different slides for each day.

Scientists dive inside 'weird looking' Mars funnel for the first time

WALT: Reflect on the article we read for SSR.

Today for SSR I chose a article from the section Technology. I worked on this task together
with my buddy Irys. We picked this article because
We found it interesting and also because it's about the world and what's been happening on Mars.
The thing I found challenging during my research about this article was trying to find out
how these things happen in the universe. I learnt new things about Dr. Levy during reading this text.
Next time I would like to read a article that talks more about the world.
Here is the link to the article: LINK
Thank you for reading please leave a comment on what I need to work on and what I have achieved or done well on!

Is Sport Sexist?

Is Sport Sexist?

In rugby the captain of the All Blacks team is Kieran Reed. Kieran Reed is 31 years old and is captain of the All Blacks. The All Blacks team is New Zealand’s National rugby union team. The captain of the Black Ferns is Fiao'o Fa'amausili. She is now a police officer in Auckland.

The most popular sport in my family would be rugby, touch & netball. Rugby is popular in my family because my dad played rugby throughout his whole teenage years and now he does not play rugby but my brother plays rugby now and is gonna carry on my dad’s rugby and touch journey. My mum was famous for playing netball in Tonga but has now retired from netball ever since she moved to New Zealand. We watch these sports on television also and we also play online games about these sports.

Sexism means when someone is discriminating someone typically against women on the basis of sex. I am not really aware of sexism in sports because i’m not really sure if sexism is in every sport. Mostly men's sport are on television than the women's sports are because some people think that men’s sport are more entertaining than the women’s sports are. I think that it’s just not fair because only the women’s netball games come on television either then women’s rugby and women’s other sports. I think that women’s sport should be on t.v for people to watch and to be entertained by women’s sport.

I don’t think that there are any sports that are sexist to men only to women because most sports that men play aren’t really sexist.

There are many sports in the world but some sports are sexist to women. Football is sexist towards females because many females have been sexually harassed in football. In netball is says that netball must be the most sexist sport on the planet. There is also sexist in tennis and a lot of people say that the sexist in tennis needs to stop. I think that rugby is sexist to women because they get touched every time they get tackled.

I think that netball is sexist to men because they do get touched oftenly just like in rugby when they get tackled they are also being touched by another person. I also think that netball is sexist because some people get sexually harassed by others when trying to get the ball they sometimes get touched by the other person.

WALT: Reflect on the task we did for reading.

Today our class read an article about sexism in sports. Sexism in sports happens oftenly in rugby because you get touched when you get tackled by the other team. I learnt that there can be sexism in many sports and I also learnt what sexism means. Something that I found challenging in this task was trying to found out what sports were sexist to men because there aren’t really any sports that are sexist to men. My understanding of this task was that we had to figure out if sports were sexist. Sexist is when you're sexually being harassed by someone else or when someone is discriminating you typically womens. I know that I have learnt something new about sexist because I haven’t really had the thought of sexism in sports.

How do you rate a movie?

WALT: reflect on the article we read.

How do you rate a movie?

Movies have ratings because the people that made the movies want to know how much people liked their movie and what they didn’t like about it so they know what they need to work on with their movies next times. Movies also have ratings so people know what’s appropriate for children to watch and what’s not appropriate to watch.

I think that every movie should have a age rating because some movies aren’t appropriate for children to watch and adults need to know what movies are good for their kids to watch and what movies are appropriate for their teenage kids.

I think that if I was able to ban a particular type of movie it would be documentary types of movies because i’m not really into documentary movies. I would also ban documentary movies because it’s not my type of movie and i’m not into those kind of movies.

There are many bad languages in our world and but I think that the worst language is swearing because it offends people’s feelings sometimes and can create problems between people. Swearing are just words but they course many drama in all around the world and it mostly creates fights with many people.

In schools teachers should punish students when they swear because I think that if they don’t punish students they will keep on swearing in front of the younger students and then they will copy the older students and start swearing. Teachers should punish kids for swearing at school so schools can become a better school and so we can also have good influences around the little kids. Schools need to have a good reputation and to have a good reputation we need to stop the swearing in schools.

One of my questions from the article I read would be “Why would someone post this article when the world already knows what's good from right?”. Some people might not know right from wrong but I know what’s right from wrong because I come to school to learn new things and I also learn at church and at home from my parents and families.

Someone I know that has watched a film that’s the not appropriate age for them is my friend Royd. He has told me that he has only watched a movie unappropriate for his age because it was the only thing on t.v to watch and he was bored so he watched the movie with his dad. The movie he watched had no sexual scenes but it did have bad language in it.

Our school has a school policy about swearing. Swearing is not tolerated in our school and if we are caught swearing we either get punished by sitting on the dots, picking up rubbish or something else. Swearing in my school is not tolerated by the principal because our school needs leaders that can represent our school with good leadership and clean language. If our school didn’t have a school policy about swearing children would just be swearing whenever they want and wherever they want.

Kiwi Kids News

WALT: reflect on what we read for SSR.

Today for SSR our class had to pick an article to read from the world's section.
The article I picked is about a strange pinging noise that's been coming from the arctic.
People have reported the noise which they described as an strange pinging noise. The Canadian
Armed Forces has been using different technology scanning devices to find out what the noise is
but they found nothing unusual.

Thank you for reading here is the link for the article:LINK

Guy Fawkes

WALT: reflect on Guy Fawkes.

In my research on Guy Fawkes it mostly talks about his history and what happened
in his time of life. In my research I found out that Guy Fawkes was born a protestant
and was then converted catholicism. Guy Fawkes wife Maria Pulleyn was born a year before
he was born and is also one year older than he is.

Kiwi Can

WALT: reflect on what we did at Kiwi Can.

Today at Kiwi Can the main thing we were learning about was social media. Some
of the questions we were given to answer were How can we be safe online? What will happen
if we are not safe online?. So I know that one of the ways of keeping safe online
is by not posting your personal information but if you need to use some of your personal
information for important stuff like school work you can but just not too much
of your personal information. Next time at Kiwi Can I hope to do better working as a group
and more communicating with our group and working hard.

Thank you for reading enjoy!

Kiwi Sport

WALT: reflect on what we did at Kiwi Sport.

Today for Kiwi Sport we had Marco as our teacher for Basketball. Sadly today was our
last day of Basketball and also we didn't get to go outside for Kiwi Sport because
the weather wasn't so good. Although we still had very much fun as a class
and also learning more new things about Basketball. I learnt a lot of new things today
and they were 3 types of dribbling and 4 types of passes. One other thing I learnt today at Kiwi Sport
was the shadow. Marco taught us the shadow to use it when playing ball tag because it helps us to get more people out.

Thank you for reading my work!

Music With Caleb

WALT: reflect on what we did at music.

Today room 9 went to music. For music today we did an exam about
music and it was fun during part of it for me. It was challenging throughout the
whole exam but hopefully I got some questions right. Next time maybe
I think I need to work on focusing more on the work that i've been given instead of being
distracted by others. I need to also keep coming to school so I can learn more about music.

Thank you for reading enjoy!

SSR - Reflection

WALT: reflect on what we read for SSR.

Today for SSR I read an article from Kiwi Kids News. It's about
four people who died in one of the rides from Dreamworld in the Gold Coast Australia.
It was two men and two women that died on the Thunder River Rapids Ride.
They've shut down the Dreamworld after the death of the four people.

Thank you for reading enjoy!

SSR- Reflection

WALT: reflect about the article we read for SSR.

Today for SSR I read on a article that is about a conjoined twins
that have been suffering from their heads being conjoined
together but were luckily separated by a life threatening 27 hour operation.
Thanks to their surgeon Dr Goodrich that gave them his best with the 27 hour operation
that got them this far. The twins are now recovering in the Bronx's Montefiore Hospital from their
very long and tiring operation.  This article has really got me thinking about what I want to be
in the future and I gave me a thought that when i'm older I want to be surgeon so I could help
others that are searching for help. I would like to help people in the future so I want to be a surgeon or a educated doctor.

Thank you for reading enjoy!

SSR - Reflection

WALT: reflect on what we read for SSR.

Today for SSR I read about a article from NZ Herald. It's about a boy who can't be hugged and then he flies thousands of miles just to meet a service dog that became his first service dog friend. Hopefully this interests you because it was interesting to me.

Thank you for reading enjoy!
