John Key resigns from being Prime Minister of New Zealand

WALT: Find an article and read on John Key resigning.

Today to start of the day we did some maths work. After maths we had to find an article from NZ Herald about why John Key had resigned. After we read the article we had to work on  why we think that John Key resigned and how this would affect New Zealand. We also had to state our opinion on why we think he's resigning. I found looking for an article challenging because there were so many articles that I could've chose to read but I only had to choose one. I chose the article that's about John Key resigning because of social media problems and family reasons.

Thank you for reading!

Donald Trump dresses up as himself to a costume party

WALT: Reflect on what we read for SSR.

Today the article I chose to read for SSR was the article about Trump dressing up as himself at a costume party. The reason why I chose to read this article is because I don’t really read much article’s about costume parties and because it sounds interesting because Trump is dressing up just as himself. The thing that I found most challenging was trying to understand some of the words that were used in the article because I didn't know what some of them meant. Next time I hope to do better on trying to put sentences into my own words by also knowing what they mean.

Thank you for reading my work!

Christmas Songs Research

WALT: Research facts about Christmas songs.

Today the first thing room 9 did was researching 3-5 Christmas songs and answering the questions the teacher gave us about the songs you chose. I only chose three songs and they were White Christmas, Silent Night and Jingle Bells. I chose these three songs because Silent Night is about Jesus's birth, Jingle Bells is one of the main Christmas songs and White Christmas is one of my favorite Christmas songs. The thing I found challenging on this research was trying to find out which country the songs came from because they were made a long time ago and I wasn't really sure which site to use because there were many sites I wanted to use. On my research I really liked writing about the lyrics because the lyrics of the songs are amazing and very touching to Jesus's birth especially Silent Night.

Technology Reflection - Rock Cake

WAL: How to make rock cake.

On Thursday for technology the year 8’s made rock cake with Mrs. Tuipulotu. Today's
technology was different to all the other technology's we've been to because
today we got to do everything by ourselves without the teacher instructing us all the
time on what we do and how we do it. Today the thing that me and my partner found really challenging
was trying to make our rock cakes in the right shape and topping them up. It was really challenging because without the teachers instructions we kind of needed a lot of help but besides from that everything else was amazing and it was an great experience. Today was also a great time getting to do all the baking by ourselves and learning how to make more new food and next time I really look forward to what we’re making next.

Boy Banned For Running In Bare feet

WAL: Reflect on what we read for SSR.

Today for SSR I chose an article from NZ Herald that's about a child that was
disqualified from participating in races because of running in barefoot. It is sad news to hear
that this child was not able to compete in the 80 sprint against others because of the rules of
not aloud to run in barefoot. His name is Henry Patterson and his mother was not happy at all that
he was disqualified from racing. But as the rules were said he was not able to race in barefoot. In this article I learnt about not racing in barefoot because you could get disqualified and it's part of the rules in some school's. Next time I would like to read an article about health & wellbeing because I don’t really read that much about health and wellbeing. The thing that i found challenging was trying to understand why kids cannot race in barefoot because it is a normal thing for kids to race in barefoot.

Black Gold

WALA: The different events happening around the world.

Today our teacher gave our whole class an article to read and reflect on about. The article that our teacher gave us is called Black Gold and is based on hair extensions. In this text our teacher has given our class an article and we have to read it and then reflect on it with the questions she has given us. I have learnt a lot of new things from this text about what happens in China with hair extensions. In part of this text I read that some men go around China looking for little girls with long hair to cut then they sell it other women who need hair. I found understanding words that I haven't heard before challenging for me because I don't really know what it means and what it is. From this text I enjoyed watching the video about how they cut girl's hair and how they make hair extensions.

Thank you reading please comment on my work!

On the Dawning of Realisation

WALT: reflect on what article we read.

Today I have chosen to read an article from NZ Herald from the section opinion. The article
I chose is about an elderly lady who just realised that she loves her husband. From this text I learnt that
even though relationships has their ups and downs we can still make it through together. I know that
I have learnt something because my parent's relationship wasn't as tight as it is now because in the past
they had many arguments but now they don't argue anymore and even though they still have their ups and downs they still stay together. Next time I would like to read an article about business so I can learn about business for when i'm older.

Thank you for reading!

Team Building

WALT: Reflect on what we did for team building.

On Monday the year 7&8's did team building outside on the field. We did some camp activities together before the year 7&8's were off to camp the next day. I like doing team building because you get to communicate with others and learn more about the others around you. My favorite part of team building was when did the lid spinning because it was challenging and I found it hard but we all still tried even if our group didn't win. Next time I need to do better in helping my team mates.

Thank you for reading!

E.O.T.C WEEK

WALT: Reflect on what we did for E.O.T.C Week.

This is my presentation that I worked on with my buddy Irys. The whole of last week the year 4 5 & 6 had E.O.T.C while the year 7&8's were at camp. Although some year 7&8's didn't go so they stayed behind and went E.O.T.C as well only if they payed. E.O.T.C stands for Education Outside The Classroom. E.O.T.C is extremely fun and it's a good time to get to know others and getting new friends and knowing more about the people around you. My favorite part of E.O.T.C was when we watched the movie Secret Life Of Pets. It's my favorite part of E.O.T.C because I get to spend more time with my friends and because I was really looking forward to watching Secret Life Of Pets. In most parts of the movie I laughed because Snowball is so cute and funny because he looks so cute and then turns angry. Snowball is my favorite character because he's cute, funny, intelligent in his own ways, confident and many more reasons why. I chose to work on a presentation because it's much easier for me to work on and because on each slide me and Irys put in what we did each day on different slides for each day.

Scientists dive inside 'weird looking' Mars funnel for the first time

WALT: Reflect on the article we read for SSR.

Today for SSR I chose a article from the section Technology. I worked on this task together
with my buddy Irys. We picked this article because
We found it interesting and also because it's about the world and what's been happening on Mars.
The thing I found challenging during my research about this article was trying to find out
how these things happen in the universe. I learnt new things about Dr. Levy during reading this text.
Next time I would like to read a article that talks more about the world.
Here is the link to the article: LINK
Thank you for reading please leave a comment on what I need to work on and what I have achieved or done well on!

Thanksgiving

WALT: Choose a November celebration to reflect on as part of our inquiry.

Today the November celebration I chose was Thanksgiving. I worked on this task
with my buddy Irys. We chose Thanksgiving
because we already know many things about Thanksgiving and we also
chose this celebration because it's our favorite November celebration
besides Guy Fawkes. Thanksgiving is a time of the year when families gather together
at one relatives house and gives thanks to others. Thanksgiving is a expression of gratitude but
especially to God.  In this task I found nothing challenging because I already know many things about Thanksgiving. The traditional food for Thanksgiving is Turkey. I like Thanksgiving because my family in America celebrates it and that's why I know many things about Thanksgiving.

Thank you for reading please comment on what I need to work on and what I have achieved.

Is Sport Sexist?

Is Sport Sexist?

In rugby the captain of the All Blacks team is Kieran Reed. Kieran Reed is 31 years old and is captain of the All Blacks. The All Blacks team is New Zealand’s National rugby union team. The captain of the Black Ferns is Fiao'o Fa'amausili. She is now a police officer in Auckland.

The most popular sport in my family would be rugby, touch & netball. Rugby is popular in my family because my dad played rugby throughout his whole teenage years and now he does not play rugby but my brother plays rugby now and is gonna carry on my dad’s rugby and touch journey. My mum was famous for playing netball in Tonga but has now retired from netball ever since she moved to New Zealand. We watch these sports on television also and we also play online games about these sports.

Sexism means when someone is discriminating someone typically against women on the basis of sex. I am not really aware of sexism in sports because i’m not really sure if sexism is in every sport. Mostly men's sport are on television than the women's sports are because some people think that men’s sport are more entertaining than the women’s sports are. I think that it’s just not fair because only the women’s netball games come on television either then women’s rugby and women’s other sports. I think that women’s sport should be on t.v for people to watch and to be entertained by women’s sport.

I don’t think that there are any sports that are sexist to men only to women because most sports that men play aren’t really sexist.

There are many sports in the world but some sports are sexist to women. Football is sexist towards females because many females have been sexually harassed in football. In netball is says that netball must be the most sexist sport on the planet. There is also sexist in tennis and a lot of people say that the sexist in tennis needs to stop. I think that rugby is sexist to women because they get touched every time they get tackled.

I think that netball is sexist to men because they do get touched oftenly just like in rugby when they get tackled they are also being touched by another person. I also think that netball is sexist because some people get sexually harassed by others when trying to get the ball they sometimes get touched by the other person.

WALT: Reflect on the task we did for reading.

Today our class read an article about sexism in sports. Sexism in sports happens oftenly in rugby because you get touched when you get tackled by the other team. I learnt that there can be sexism in many sports and I also learnt what sexism means. Something that I found challenging in this task was trying to found out what sports were sexist to men because there aren’t really any sports that are sexist to men. My understanding of this task was that we had to figure out if sports were sexist. Sexist is when you're sexually being harassed by someone else or when someone is discriminating you typically womens. I know that I have learnt something new about sexist because I haven’t really had the thought of sexism in sports.

How do you rate a movie?

WALT: reflect on the article we read.

How do you rate a movie?

Movies have ratings because the people that made the movies want to know how much people liked their movie and what they didn’t like about it so they know what they need to work on with their movies next times. Movies also have ratings so people know what’s appropriate for children to watch and what’s not appropriate to watch.

I think that every movie should have a age rating because some movies aren’t appropriate for children to watch and adults need to know what movies are good for their kids to watch and what movies are appropriate for their teenage kids.

I think that if I was able to ban a particular type of movie it would be documentary types of movies because i’m not really into documentary movies. I would also ban documentary movies because it’s not my type of movie and i’m not into those kind of movies.

There are many bad languages in our world and but I think that the worst language is swearing because it offends people’s feelings sometimes and can create problems between people. Swearing are just words but they course many drama in all around the world and it mostly creates fights with many people.

In schools teachers should punish students when they swear because I think that if they don’t punish students they will keep on swearing in front of the younger students and then they will copy the older students and start swearing. Teachers should punish kids for swearing at school so schools can become a better school and so we can also have good influences around the little kids. Schools need to have a good reputation and to have a good reputation we need to stop the swearing in schools.

One of my questions from the article I read would be “Why would someone post this article when the world already knows what's good from right?”. Some people might not know right from wrong but I know what’s right from wrong because I come to school to learn new things and I also learn at church and at home from my parents and families.

Someone I know that has watched a film that’s the not appropriate age for them is my friend Royd. He has told me that he has only watched a movie unappropriate for his age because it was the only thing on t.v to watch and he was bored so he watched the movie with his dad. The movie he watched had no sexual scenes but it did have bad language in it.

Our school has a school policy about swearing. Swearing is not tolerated in our school and if we are caught swearing we either get punished by sitting on the dots, picking up rubbish or something else. Swearing in my school is not tolerated by the principal because our school needs leaders that can represent our school with good leadership and clean language. If our school didn’t have a school policy about swearing children would just be swearing whenever they want and wherever they want.

The Big Earthquake in New Zealand

WALA: the earthquake in New Zealand.

Today I have been learning about the earthquake in New Zealand that's just recently happened.
I know that I learnt a lot about the earthquake because I read an article on NZ
Herald that's about the earthquake. This earthquake has caused many problems
to our country and many damages to our earth. John Key is trying his best to find a way of
stopping earthquakes happening in New Zealand.
Here's the link to the site I read LINK

2016 Manaiakalani

2016 Manaiakalani

Today our school Tamaki Primary School went to Sylvia Park for the Manaiakalani Festival.
We went onto the busses with our buddy classes together. One of my favorite movies that we watched
was room 6's movie zumba from our school. Their movie was my favorite because I really liked their dance moves and how much energy they put into their movie. I also liked their movie because it was fun and it makes me feel like joining the dance with them. This zumba dance could be useful for friends and families to watch at home and join in with their zumba dance. Their dance movie really got me interested in seeing more movies from them. My favorite thing about the movie was that everyone was enjoying themselves and having fun even if they messed up a bit. The main thing I was looking for through the movie was that everyone would be working together as a class doing the zumba and not giving up.

Here are some photos

Thank you for reading have fun!

Kiwi Kids News

WALT: reflect on what we read for SSR.

Today for SSR our class had to pick an article to read from the world's section.
The article I picked is about a strange pinging noise that's been coming from the arctic.
People have reported the noise which they described as an strange pinging noise. The Canadian
Armed Forces has been using different technology scanning devices to find out what the noise is
but they found nothing unusual.

Thank you for reading here is the link for the article:LINK

Guy Fawkes

WALT: reflect on Guy Fawkes.

In my research on Guy Fawkes it mostly talks about his history and what happened
in his time of life. In my research I found out that Guy Fawkes was born a protestant
and was then converted catholicism. Guy Fawkes wife Maria Pulleyn was born a year before
he was born and is also one year older than he is.

Kiwi Can

WALT: reflect on what we did at Kiwi Can.

Today at Kiwi Can the main thing we were learning about was social media. Some
of the questions we were given to answer were How can we be safe online? What will happen
if we are not safe online?. So I know that one of the ways of keeping safe online
is by not posting your personal information but if you need to use some of your personal
information for important stuff like school work you can but just not too much
of your personal information. Next time at Kiwi Can I hope to do better working as a group
and more communicating with our group and working hard.

Thank you for reading enjoy!

Music With Caleb

WALT: reflect on what we did at music.

Today room 9 went to music. For music today we did an exam about
music and it was fun during part of it for me. It was challenging throughout the
whole exam but hopefully I got some questions right. Next time maybe
I think I need to work on focusing more on the work that i've been given instead of being
distracted by others. I need to also keep coming to school so I can learn more about music.

Thanks to their surgeon Dr Goodrich that gave them his best with the 27 hour operation
that got them this far. The twins are now recovering in the Bronx's Montefiore Hospital from their
very long and tiring operation.  This article has really got me thinking about what I want to be
in the future and I gave me a thought that when i'm older I want to be surgeon so I could help
others that are searching for help. I would like to help people in the future so I want to be a surgeon or a educated doctor.

Reading

WALT: think critically about texts with increasing understanding and confidence.

Today for reading room had to read a text name "Wild Boy" The journey of Brando Yelavich
by Stephanie Chamberlin. We had to read through it three times and then find out what were the connections that we were able to determine from the text. As a class we were able to find out that the connections were that Brando discovered something about himself while on the adventure and we also discovered something about ourselves. We had to put down at least three things that we learned about ourselves at school this whole year, what we struggle on and continue to work on, what we improved on and hoe we're doing with our work.

15 Minutes Outside

WALT: reflect on our 15 minutes outside.
15 MINS OUTSIDE

Intro: Malo E Lelei my name is Nita and I will be talking about 15 mins outside. We had a choice of what we wanted to do together as a class but 1 person had to choose. So the teacher (Miss Komor) picked and she chose the birthday boy (Metui). What he wanted us to do was to go outside and play. So we did that for him and for us to.

So as we went outside to play the boys went on the field and played rugby. While the girls played on the park but some girls wanted to play with the boys so she went and played with them. What I did first was that I went into the small little house and had a 2 minute rest there with Paterita & Irys. Then we got out and I went to Ana, Nooroa & Hereani and we did the Juju on that beat dance. When we finished we went onto the park and found our own spots to the it again to show Miss Komor.

After we got in our spots we showed Miss Komor the Juju on that beat and then she gave us a thumbs up. Then we just chose a game to play and we chose to play busted. The game goes like this: first everyone has to get on the park and last one on is in. Then whoever goes on the ground if anyone sees them and they say busted then they’re in. So even if the person that’s in touches the ground and they get busted they have to count to 10 and everyone runs away until they finish counting then they chase after them.

Then we all started playing the game. The girls that were playing were Nita, Paterita, Raena, Ana, Nooroa, Hereani, Helen, Kalo & Irys. So as we were playing Miss Komor kept on checking on us to see if we were sitting down doing nothing or just relaxing. Everything was ok because everyone was included in the games and it was fun. We only had 15 minutes outside but it was still worth it.

Facts Abotu Mali

WALA: reflection about Mali.

Today for SSR we searched up facts about Mali. When we first
got told to work on Mali I didn't know what the teacher meant because
i've never learnt about Mali before. I'm glad I got to work about Mali
so I could learn more about Mali and their country. Next time i'd like to focus more on
what their cultural dances are or what they do.

Thank you for reading enjoy!

Facts About Utah

WALA: reflection about Utah.

Today for SSR we searched up facts about Utah. One interesting fact I found
out about Utah was that Utah is the only state with the Mormon majority.
I wish I was able to go to Utah because it sounds
fun and looks fun. I learnt many new facts about Utah. Hopefully next
time I could learn more about Utah.

Thank you for reading enjoy!

Music - Reflection

WALT: learn different ways to play music and how to communicate through music.

Today, room 9 went down to the music room to have music with Caleb.
We have music times with Caleb so we can be able
to understand music what lyrics they use, what it looks like and many more
reasons why. We learn about music so we may understand them and
what the notes mean. Music today was fun and next time I hope to try better on
being on time with the beat.

Thank you for reading enjoy!

Reading - Reflection

WALT: I can find and learn the meanings of unknown
vocabulary by using strategies such as applying my
knowledge of how words work or seeking explanations in
the text or in illustrations.

Today for reading my group had been reading about
a book called "Oakley Creek". We had to find out what connections were
we able to determine about the text and 3 things
that we could infer about the text. I can tell you that part of this text is about
a girl name Faith and she had to decide what she would do out of doing the right thing or the bad thing. Of course she chose to the the bad thing but only so she could fit in with the other kids.

I guess that what I learnt from this was that if you want to fit
in with others you just gotta be yourself so others can
choose you for who you are.

Thank you for reading enjoy!

Food Technology - Reflection

WALT: reflect on technology today.

Today for technology with Mrs. Tuipulotu we made
some delicious Macaroni & Cheese. The year 8's all worked very hard
to get a perfect macaroni to eat, but of course they were all yummy. My buddy was Paige
and we worked really hard on it together.

Next time I think that we work a little bit faster and better.

Thank you for reading enjoy!

Attitude Programme

Today for the Attitude Programme we had Dan Ackermann today as our presenter. Dan taught us some things about friendship, but the main thing we talked about today was about friendship factors.

What does it mean to be a good friend? Being a good friend means being friends with other people by choosing them for who they are, being there for them & cheering them up when they need someone to lean on.

How do guys and girls establish connections differently? The boys they communicate differently to the girls because they communicate and make friends by playing with each other and talking and many other crazy things that girls don’t do. Girls communicate differently to boys because they communicate by talking, messaging, using social media, & phone calls that’s how different girls and boys are to each other.

Why is it important to respect differences? It is important to respect differences because if you don’t respect the fact that everyone is different then you might cause trouble or rumours about yourself or others. Respecting differences is important because you can find more friends by respecting others.

What are the myths to friendships? The myths to friendship are: Myth 1: I am the only one who struggles. Myth 2: Friendships just happens. Myth 3: It’s all about quantity.

How many ideal friends should we have? The many ideal friends we should have are about 4-5. 2 Ways people can bully someone else: Cyber Bullying Physical Bullying

In what ways can you be friendly? You can be friendly by helping others in a nice way, being there for each other, always speaking to each other in a nice way and always stay confident.

What did you like about Dan’s presentation? What I liked about Dan’s presentation was that it helps us in life and it what we need to work on. I also liked how he talked about friendship factors because it encourages everyone how to become friends in a friendly way and confidently.

How Do I show Whanaungatanga Online?

WALT: show Whanaungatanga online.

Today I have been working on the school values. The value i've been
